STANDARDS BASED EVALUATION OF EDUCATION MAJORS

STUDENTS MAJORING IN EDUCATION OR THOSE WHO MIGHT BE CONSIDERING CHANGING TO AN EDUCATION MAJOR SHOULD NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

The recent national and state emphasis on standards based teacher education has led accrediting boards such as the National Professional Standards Board and the Indiana Professional Standards Board to ask universities to assess pre-service students of education. These assessments will be checklists and brief evaluations of students' attitudes towards course work and performance, in addition to course grades. Teachers in English 102, English 220, and literature courses required for elementary or secondary education [English] majors will evaluate all education majors. The assessment information will be entered into a confidential data base. Instructors in English courses will be happy to discuss this evaluation with you.
