• Frank McCourt, Angela’s Ashes: A Memoir (1996) --an autobiography by an Irish American who grew up in poverty
• Neil Postman, The Disappearance of Childhood (1982) --insights into children behaving like adults, and adults behaving like children
• Art Spiegelman, Maus: A Survivor’s Tale (1986) --a comic book about the holocaust
