Acclaimed writer Mark Doty is the author of seven books of poetry and three memoirs, including Heaven's Coast, a moving meditation on illness and loss written in response to his partner's death from AIDS. He has won numerous awards that include two NEA fellowships, Guggenheim and Rockefeller Foundation Fellowships, a Lile Wallace / Readers Digest Award, the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Witter Byner Prize, and Great Britain's T.S. Eliot prize. He teaches in the graduate writing program at the University of Houston and resides in both Houston and New York. He speaks as part of the Spirit and Place Festival.
In addition to his reading, Doty will lead a creative writing class at the University of Indianapolis and give a talk meditating on selected objects in the Indianapolis Museum of Art collection.
