Kevin McKelvey graduated from DePauw University, and then finished an M.F.A. in Poetry at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. His first acceptance as a poet was a 2005-2006 Individual Artist Grant from the Indiana Arts Commission. In May 2006, he was at the Writers’ Colony at Dairy Hollow as recipient of a Moondancer Fellowship. In October 2006, he spent a week at the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest in Oregon as a writer-in-residence with the Spring Creek Project. He was an Artist-in-Residence at Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior in July 2007. New work recently appeared or is forthcoming in Alehouse, CutThroat, River Oak Review, Timber Creek Review, and Tipton Poetry Journal. McKelvey currently lives with his wife in Indianapolis, Indiana in a house built in 1870.
