The English Department educates its majors to think critically and creatively, to enjoy literature and understand a range of critical approaches, to have a knowledge of the history and structure of the English language, and to perform complex writing tasks. In addition to exploring literary traditions, the department values literature for the picture it can provide of contemporary society and for its ability to illuminate life. Selections read in English classes reflect cultural diversity.
Congratulations to Dr. Jennifer Camden on the publication of her new book, Secondary Heroines in 19th C British and American Novels. More information & purchasing at Ashgate.com.
